Gimdes’s Palm Oil Explanation

Dr. Hüseyin Kami Büyüközer, the president of GIMDES, has made a statement about the recent news on palm oil. Dr. Büyüközer has claimed that the EFSA report in 2016 was just a part of a slander campaign against palm oil, trying to disrupt Malaysia and Indonesia.

“Being harmful or containing trans fats can’t only be associated with palm oil but all kinds of fats and it depends on the use. When exposed to 200° C, all vegetable oils produce unwanted toxic chemicals.

Palm oil is mainly produced in countries such as Malaysia, West and Central Africa and Indonesia. It is made up of the pulp of the palm fruit and semi-solid at room temperature. It is commonly preferred in the food industry due to its relatively lower cost. It is enlisted as a type of cooking oil by the international CODEX Allimentarius Comission; a joint association of FAO and WHO. We, as GIMDES, will continue to certify palm oil and its derivatives as healthy and halal so long as they provide the necessary requirements. “
